HARRY POTTER INSPIRED FAMILY VACATION

Updated: Mar 24, 2022

With the release of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, my family is talking all things Harry Potter again! If you have some Harry Potter fans in your family why not consider taking a trip to the UK and visit some of the “real” places in the Harry Potter movies.

The Elephant House – Edinburgh Scotland

A trip of Harry Potter landmarks wouldn’t be complete without adding this location. The Elephant House is the “birthplace” of Harry Potter. It was here that J.K Rowling wrote the first two books of the series.

GreyFriars Kirkyard – Edinburgh Scotland

This cemetery has been credited as containing the inspiration for character names of Voldemort and Professor McGonagall. The tombstones of Thomas Riddle and the poet William McGonagall have been said to have inspired the names for Voldemort and Professor McGonagall. It’s also rumoured to be one of the most haunted graveyards in Europe.

Glennfinnan Viaduct, Scotland

You can take a ride on the Hogwarts Express! This is an actual functioning Jacobite Steam train and it’s route takes you across the famous Glennfinnan Viaduct. Or stop at the Glennfinnan Visitor’s Centre to watch the train cross the Viaduct.

Goathland Station – UK

This station is the train platform for Hogsmeade Station in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone (2001). As the train pulls into the station, you may find yourself waiting for Harry and Ron to step off the train.

Harrow School – UK

Ready for charms class with Professor Flitwick? This all boys private school’s oldest classroom was the setting for the Wingardium Leviosa lesson in Harry Potter and the Socerer’s Stone (2001)

Kings Cross Station – London

The home of platform 9 3/4! Don’t miss the chance to take your picture “entering” the platform.

Cecil Court

This street is famous for being the inspiration for Diagon Alley. You can easily imagine finding Ollivander’s Wand shop while wandering this long row of shops.

Warner Bros. Studio Tour – London

Finish your Harry Potter inspired trip with a studio tour. Walk the movie sets of Diagon Alley and the Great Hall and learn about the movies special effects.

What other Harry Potter movies sites would you add to your trip?

Happy travels,

Donna
